Katelain Tavares, Clarinet & Saxaphone
Katelain Tavares is a freelance clarinetist and private studio teacher based in Providence, RI. She holds a Bachelor of Music in clarinet performance and a Bachelor of Arts in music history and literature from the University of Rhode Island, as well as a Master of Arts in historical musicology from Tufts University. Katelain currently manages RI Clarinet School, her private teaching studio, which caters to clarinet students of all ages and playing abilities. She also teaches private lessons after school for the North Attleboro (MA) High School band program, as well as group lessons for 6th grade beginner band students at Kickemuit Middle School in Warren, RI.
When not teaching, Katelain enjoys performing in variety of ensembles, including The American Band (co-principal clarinet) and the Narragansett Bay Symphony Community Orchestra (clarinet/bass clarinet/Eb clarinet). She also performs for various theatre shows in the region, playing saxophone and flute as well as clarinet in the orchestra pit. Katelain is the D’addario Woodwinds Method Clinician for Rhode Island and Massachusetts. As a clinician, she enjoys sharing her knowledge of clarinet and saxophone technique with other musicians and students in the area. In her free time she enjoys knitting and taking walks around downtown Providence with her husband, Jay, and miniature schnauzer, Jack. Her website is www.riclarinet.com.
